Commonness and Risk Factors Associated with Gastrointestinal Parasitic Infections among Inmates of Port Harcourt Children’s Home

Background: Gastrointestinal parasites are important health problems among most societies.
 Objectives: Prevalence and risk factors associated with gastrointestinal inmates of Port Harcourt children home.
 Methods: This prospective study was carried out in August September 2019 at the home. Fecal samples were collected from 63 healthy looking examined macroscopically microscopically (using normal saline iodine wet mount, formalin-ether sedimentation modified Ziehl Neelsen staining) methods. Finally, data analyzed using descriptive statistics Chi-square (X2) test.
 Results: Result showed that 74.6% (47/63) female 25.4% (16/63) male tested positive for GIPs. Age group 11-15 years had prevalence 17(44.8%). The common identified A. lumbricoides 10(15.9%), T. trichiura 7(11.1%) hookworm (Ancylostoma duodenale) 2(3.2%). educational level 10(52.6%) observed primary (p<0.05). such as: use drug last three months, hand washing soap after toilet hands contact soil significance p<0.05 while putting on foot wear outside house p>0.05.
 Conclusion: distribution parasitic infections is high children. Necessary treatment intervention safety measures should be routinely to reduce spread zero tolerance.
